If you have not completed STEP 3 then please go and do that first:
HOW TO: Setting up your DS Card - STEP 3: Downloading the RIGHT Software
STEP4: Installing the kernel software to your Micro SD card
By now you should have installed WinRAR (See Step1), properly formatted your micro sd card (See Step2) and have the correct, most recent kernel software for your card downloaded to your desktop. (See Step3)
This topic describes how to unpack the software and then copy it to your micro sd card. It then explains about what you need to do to test your card to ensure that you have installed the software correctly.
The screenshots below where taken from a machine running Windows 7. They may look slightly different if you are using windows vista or windows xp, but should be similar enough for you to work through and copy the steps correctly.

1) Right click on the software file you should have saved onto your desktop. (If you have saved it in another location on your PC that's fine just continue from that location) and choose the extract option from the pop up menu that appears. (Choose the option as circled in the picture above)

2) The software is now unzipped (unpacked) to a new folder on your desktop.

3) You should now see a new folder on your desktop, that is named the same as the software download file. Double click on the folder to open it and to view the contents.

4) You should now have a window open similar to the above. The one software I am using as an example is for an R4i Upgrade card from www.r4isdhc.com. Most R4 cards will look similar but DSTT, M3 cards will look slightly different. There may only be one folder and one file.
5) Now its time to go and get your formatted Micro SD card. Insert it into your card reader and then into your PC.

6) You may be prompted similar to the above when you first insert your card into your PC. If so choose "Open folder to view files". If you do not get this prompt, open a new windows explorer window and navigate to your card from the list of drives.

7) You should now have a window open, as above, showing the contents of your memory card. This should be empty at this stage.
8) Now switch back to the window that has the files from your software kernel showing (From step 4 of this post).

9) Both windows should now be open as above.

10) Highlight all the files and folders from the window that contains the files and folders from your software kernel download.

11) Click and drag the files from that window into your micro sd card window and let go to copy the files to your card. Alternatively, right click all the selected files and choose copy. Then on your micro sd window, right click and choose paste.

12) The files and folder are now copied from to your micro sd card. :)

13) When the copy is complete you should see all the files and folders on your micro sd card. Before you even load any files/games onto the card it is possibel to test to see if what you have done so far works in your DS/DSi.

14) To do this eject the micro sd within windows 7. If you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista there will be no eject option. Instead, you need to choose to "safely remove".
15) Remove the Card reader from your PC and remove the micro SD from the card reader.
16) Insert the Micro SD card into your DS Card.
17) Insert the DS Card into your DS/DSi and turn it on.
18a) Nintendo DS: If you are using a standard Nintendo DS then the card software should load automatically. and you shoud be taken to a graphical menu.
18b) Nintendo DSi: If you are using a new Nintendo DSi then you should be taken to the DSi main menu. You should then click on the icon for your DS card. Sometimes this can be cloaked as a game, such as "Star Wars Lethal Alliance". Do not worry about this. Click the icon to load the DS Card software.
19) If all has gone well you should see something like what is displayed below:

OR

OR

20) If this is not what you see, if your DS/DSi has hung and is not responding, or if you get blank screens and/or just a loading message then you have probably incorrectly installed the software or are using the wrong version for your card. Go back to the Step 3 and double check what you have done - take a lot of care and read carefully!
21) If you do see the menu then well done - you have completed the hard part to getting your DS card working! Now to start using it. Continue to Step 5 for help loading game files.
NOW GO TO: STEP 5: Loading game files (NDS Files) and testing them on your DS/DSi
Many Thanks
