Hi I'm a complete newbee so please be gentle.

I have an R4i gold card (www.r4igold.cn) with a 2gb micro sd with some games this was made for me by a friend of a friend, for my five year old son.

When I first put the card in the DSi it came up with the star wars lethal alliance and when clicked it went to a list of games. Clicked on a game and it would not load. Removed card and tried again this time I had to keep removing and replacing the card until it was recognized, but this time I got the error message stating hold the power button. Again removed the card but now the DSi will not read the card at all just states there is no card in the slot.

Can anyone help as this is all very new for me.

Thanks

Hi Batch,

Do you know if the R4i gold card that you have is compatible with the DSi firmware 1.4? Basically Nintendo sent an update out to all DSi's - the update is number 1.4. This update made changes to the way the DSi worked and made all R4 (and similar cards) incompatible with the DSi.

My theory is that when you first received the old card your DSi was not updated with the new firmware but somewhere along the lines it now has been. (It happens when you visit the Nintendo on-line shop and also some latest games perform the update too.)

If your R4i card is 1.4 compatible it should say so on the card itself - usually there is 1,4 written on there. If it is not then it will not be 1.4 and you will never be able to get it working in your DSi ever again. You can not remove the 1.4 software from your DSi. Your only option would be to buy a new R4i card that is specifically compatible with the 1,4 DSi firmware.

If you would like a recommendation for an R4i card - just ask.

(If this is not the issue and your card is 1.4 compatible let me know and I will try to think of something else that could be wrong)

Hi Thanks for your quick reply.

The DSi is brand new so I presume it is vs 1.4 How can you check? The R4i Gold is the 1.4 version it has a little yellow icon. Also I have never enabled the internet on the DSi as it is my five year old's so when I eventually get the card sorted I don't want him to be able to go anyware especially when Nintendo may try to do a version 1.5 to trip everyone up again!

Can you have a look at my issue again please it seems really strange that it almost worked I got to the games (i did read the hanging issue thread with some SD's) but now it won't even recognise the card I even tried the sticking a bit of card to force the conections but no joy.

Thanks

Hi Batch,

Its a bit odd to be honest - It seems as though the R4i Gold card itself may be damaged - does the micro sd read in your PC ok?

I checked the San Disk Micr SD last night it loaded fine in the PC and had moonshell and moonshell2 plus games and other stuff. It is weird that it did load up once and now the won't even read the card.

Cheers

Hi again,

Yeah it is odd - it does seem though that your R4 card is faulty and I would ask for it to be replaced from your supplier...It does happen - we have had some in the past that develop a fault after use.
