I bought an R4i for a friend and install version v1.17b of the kernel from the www.r4i-sdhc.com website. Everything loads and works fine. All the games on it work, but after a couple days, all the files that are on the Micro SD card are gone. It has done this twice. The first time, only a few games were gone from the card. Then a few days later, all the files were gone from the card. I had to reformat the SD card. I then re-install the kernel and games. Once again it worked fine for a couple days and then all the files were gone from the SD card again. What could be causing this? The Micro SD card is a Kingston 4GB card, could that be the problem? I've never seen files just disappear from the SD card like this before.

Hi,
This is a strange one. We have heard reports from other users of sd cards getting corrupt after time, which I guess is what is happening here. We do know that there are issues with Kingston 4GB cards and these R4 devices, but usually this results in a slow loading issue only.
Do you have another brand of micro sd card to hand that you could try in your R4?
Many Thanks

I'll see if I can get a different SD card and try it. He is using a 4GB Kingston micro SD card so that might be the problem. It has to be some type of disk corruption because it works fine and plays all the games for a couple days and then all the files are gone from the SD card.

I got a SanDisk 4GB card that I can try. I just need to get the DS from my friend. I should be able to do that this weekend. I'll let you know what I find out.

Well, I'm not having any luck. When I got the DS from my friend, all the files appeared to still be on the SD card. But when I turned on the DS, it showed the "No Disc" screen. I formatted the SanDisk card and put the 1.17b kernel on it, put it in the DS and the same thing. It still shows the "No Disc" screen. I then put my son's Edge card in my friend's DS and that worked just fine. I then reformatted the SD card a few times putting the kernel back on there with a couple games. It still gives me the "No Disc" screen every time I turn it on. So there must be something wrong with the R4i card now. I went ahead and ordered him an Edge card. I have a lot better luck with the Edge cards over the R4 cards. Hopefully I can get this working for him. Thanks for your help.

Hi sts,
Yeah it does seem that the R4i card is faulty, have you tried the paper trick? Try a bit of folded paper pressed in between the R4i card and the DS card slot. Sometimes the R4 card does not make a good enough contact with the DS contacts....Not ideal but it does help some people...
Edge cards are very good though we like them too!
Many Thanks
