Seems to be a fair bit of similar traffic to this - maybe someone has more of a clue than I do.

just bought a v1.4.2 R4i card from R4ishopper.com and followed all of the instructions to the letter.  the card worked for about 3 days (it arrived Saturday 17th June) and then stopped working on Tuesday (yesterday).  gets as far as the "SpongeBob's Atlantic  Squarepantis THQ" - when you hit that it just goes balck screen and says "An error has occurred" etc etc.

DSi is running ver 1.4.2E and the card has the V1.4.2 splash on the front and a small "1" above the contact on the circuit board rear.

Any suggestions?

Sie

Can you confirm that you have tried to re-install the software?  It is quite simple to accidentally delete part of a software file as they are in with the game selection.

Please format the micro SD card to FAT32 using the SD association formatter.  Unzip your software download and copy all of the files and folders as they appear to your Micro SD card.  Don't make any additional folders or add any of your own files at this stage and hopefully this issue will be resolved.  Its also worth checking that the date and time are set correctly on your console as this can cause errors.

Many Thanks

yes, all done; software was downloaded from the R4iShopper website (from where the card was purchased), card formatted with SDFormatter and  R4i software unzipped and just dragged and dropped across.  have blown into the R4i SD slot and still no joy.  Alll worked fine at the first attempt, although my wife says she followed the instructions to flash the card, even though it has the V1.4.2 splash label on the front, card then worked fine for a couple of days and then stopped.  Date and time are all correct. The console (a DSi XL running V1.4.2E) boots to the usual screen (as described) and then crashes when you hit the "spongebob" icon.

Ah ok.  I would suggest that you got in touch with R4i shopper and see what warranty period they have as it does sound like something has gone wrong.  In my experience they are pretty good at sorting issues.

Many Thanks

Hi.

I was just clicking thru' various forums trying to get a solution for this prob. I can offer a bit more info but no solution as yet.

I have two DSi XL running two R4i-SDHC (originally version 1.4.1) both purchased at the same time, as one was for my son. Some time ago I upgraded both with kernel 1.40b with no problems (Spongebob appeared on my DS menu).

I downloaded the most recent kernel (1.44b) and followed the instructions again. I upgraded the first DSi XL no probs (miami nights on DS menu and previous bugged games like RIO and Captain America now play). I also decided to upgrade the DSi firmware from the DS settings menu. I removed the R4i card beforehand just in-case. The upgrade downloaded without problems and I have version 1.4.3E displayed...so far so good.

I then repeated the process with the second identical DSi XL...BUT ....crucially in my opinion, I forgot to remove the R4i card when I carried out the DS firmware upgrade from Nintendo. This R4i card does not work anymore with the 1.4.3E console. When I try to access the R4i card from the DS menu I get the message 'An error has occurred. Press and hold the power button.....'etc.

The micro SD card is fine (works in other R4i card and both consoles)

SO my advice to anyone who is about to update your firmware from the DS settings menu is to remove your R4 card before you do this. I reckon the upgrade affected the R4 adaptor. Interestingly I then tried this card in an old standard DS. It works fine! This obviously doesn't solve my problem but proves the card has some kind of problem due to firmware upgrade.

I will keep looking for a solution but I suspect I will have to wait for the next kernel update or worse still, get a new R4 card.

Any suggestions appreciated.

This is exactly what happened to me. I left the R4 card in the DS when I updated the firmware, and it will not update any of the kernels, even the latest 1.44b. I have informed what you have stated to my retailers(R4i Shopper) and the manifacturers (R4 SDHC).

The retailer replied straight away, and were interested in this info. They are contacting the manifacturers and will keep me informed.

As yet I have not recieved anything from the manifacterers . Only contacted them today(Thursday 8th Sept)

After several comminications with R4i sdhc, they have acknowledged that there are issues with the R4i card that is not fixed with the 1.44b kernel. They are working on solving this, and will make available a new update. There was no time schedule with that.
