I can confirm that I have been able to upgrade several R4i v1.4.1 cards to be compatible with the latest software v1.4.2, although you do require another console which has not been upgraded to "flash" your card.
R4ishopper.com have done a really good guide to help you through this, please see this link - Guide to Upgrade R4i v1.4.1 to v1.4.2 Here are the latest Software download links for your convenience - |

On the back of your R4i card there should be a single digit. Please can you confirm what this is?

I have updated many of these cards now myself and can confirm that the ones with a number 6 on the circuit board have been confirmed by the manufacturer to be non-upgradable. I would advise that you contacted your retailer to see if there is any warranty period with these.
Cards with a number 7 on the reverse are having mixed results. If you get the message "sorry the card is not supported. This is for the r4i-sdhc 3ds card, please power off now" I can confirm that there is currently no fix for this. The manufacturer has confirmed that they are still looking for a solution to this particular error. In this case it would be best to check back to their website regularly for the latest software kernel release.
Many Thanks

Yes there are number "7" cards that are up datable....I have personally done one :-)They are still looking into this by the looks of it. I do believe there are r4i v1.4.2 cards due to be available soon. |

The error you are getting is quite common and to be honest I am baffled how mine actually flashed ok.
The manufacturer of this card is currently looking into this issue with the number"7". On the plus side, when the update first came out there were issues with cards with other digits which have been resolved so there is hope!
Many Thanks
